PR Work Experience and London Life

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was lucky enough to gain 2 weeks work experience in the Arcadia Press Office on Oxford Street. I was imagining an Ugly Betty/Devil Wears Prada kind of office with bitchy women all tottering around in heels and eating a few salad leaves for lunch. However, everyone was so friendly and chilled out and seemed to enjoy their jobs. I was assigned to the Burton and BHS brands within the office and spent most of my time sending out clothes for magazine shoots and picking out things from store and reading magazines to see if any of our products had been used. I was surprised by how much responsibility they gave me, I was thinking I was gonna spend the 2 weeks stuffing envelopes and filing but I actually did some good jobs, including writing a little press release! The office itself was really cool with what they called the 'cupboard' containing all the new season clothes for all the brands, which they send out for different magazines and television shows. It was so cool seeing all the new stuff before it hit store, and I even managed to bag a few freebies from all the stuff they throw out to make way for the new things! :) Unfortunately I didn't manage to get any photos as they weren't allowed inside the office! This is the only one I got, a picture of my swipe card...thrilling, I know!

On another note, I absolutely loved living in London briefly and its made me realise that I want to work in the big smoke when I finish Uni. Although travelling around is super stressful and everywhere always seems to be packed, I love that there is always something going on and so much to do! I managed to do a little bit of shopping whilst I was there, although I found Oxford Street shopping very stressful. I also got a few pics of the new Selfridges window displays which were really fun! hmmm maybe I should do visual merchandising as my next work experience....!
